I have many sisters. I will be with my three birth sisters in a few weeks. I was recently with my Saucer Sisters, whose cups are overflowing and we are drinking from the saucers. Next week I will be with some beautiful sisters in Africa. And so many more.
I wrote this piece for a group of campus sisters on a retreat, to bless them as they listen as God whispers endearing names to them. He calls each of us these beautiful names, in whatever our season of life. Listen.
I am praying that in these days together, God will remind you that He loves you and calls you by many endearing names.
May you remember that He calls you Friend.
He is definitely your bff: “I have called you friends….” (John 15:15)
Imagine: A friend of God!
May your morning reflection assure you that He calls you a Masterpiece.
“For we are God’s handiwork….” (Ephesians 2:10) The word translated “handiwork” has clear artistic connotations and could easily be translated “work of art” or “masterpiece.”
May you comprehend that He calls you his Treasure.
“For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession.” (Deuteronomy 7:6)
May you rejoice that He calls you Daughter.
So it wasn’t enough for God to call you Friend. He wanted a deeper relationship. He wanted you to be part of his family:
“I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” (2 Corinthians 6:18)
May you linger in the reality that he calls you Beloved.
God is in love with you! He wants to be with you. He whispers encouraging words to you. He calls you all these special names. He leads you into remarkable opportunities to serve Him. He reminds you that He is always looking for ways to do good to you.
“My beloved is mine and I am his….” (Song of Songs 2:16)
May these names, as God whispers them in your ear, fill you with peace and joy and grace for all the years of your life.
What about you? What has He called you recently?
