Wonder: A Love Song of Your Own

long-songs.jpg

My sweet husband and I just celebrated 38 years of marriage--a wonder in itself!  Many of our friends are commemorating their anniversaries.  Truly love is in the air.

Our daughter Debbie and her husband Nick recently celebrated 10 years together.

I remember well when Nick made a surprise trip from Montana to Orlando, guitar and freshly composed love song in hand.  Then on the beach, at sunset, Nick sang his love song to Debbie and asked her to marry him.  Obviously, she said yes.So how romantic is that?  Her very own love song.

You have one, you know!  Your very own love song.  Composed and written by God himself:

The LORD your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save;  He will rejoice over you with gladness,

He will quiet you with His love,  He will rejoice over you with singing. (Zephaniah 3:17)

Truly that is a wonder!

God’s love song to each of us has many verses, some written to all of us, but most composed just for you, or just for me.  In fact, He is always adding new stanzas of His love for us.

Some verses for all of us:

Verse 1I made you.  I made you to be with me, to enjoy each other; and to show what I’m like to the world, to reflect my goodness and glory to all around.

Verse 2I missed you.  You went away, your own way.  I hated the separation, I wept over you, I knew I had to do something to bring you back.

Verse 3I redeemed you.  I asked my son to die in your place, to forgive your sins, to pay the ransom to win you back.

Verse 4I adopted you.  I invited you into my family and made you my own dear child.  I will never leave you or abandon you.

Verse 5I have plans for you.  Good plans for a future and hope.  Good works already prepared for you.  For you to be and do all I designed you for. Then come the special verses of his love for you, for me:  Those specific plans.  The opportunities.  The challenges.  The trials.  The joys and disappointments.

A recent verse I have loved in my song:  Grandchildren.  Oh what joy and energy and hope they have brought into my life.Another verse has felt more like a dirge:  So many of my friends have been ill, especially with cancer.  People I care about have gone on to heaven, leaving an emptiness in their place.

Some lines in your song will fill your heart with hope, while others may seem painful or fearful. Remember that every verse is part of His love song.  Throughout God’s song for you, you can hear him whispering:I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you. (Jeremiah 31:3)How priceless is my unfailing love.... (Psalm36:7)

My unfailing love for you will not be shaken.... (Isaiah 54:10)…neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:37-38)

Beautiful music, surely.  The melody, the harmony, the beat all flow together to flood our hearts with peace and joy and love! How wonder--full!

What about you? What is a recent verse in God’s love song for you?
